Home Sweet Home

I feel like it may be time for an update. So let's have it.

Well, the end of the semester has come and gone and I'm not quite sure how it happened so quickly. While last fall seems like eons ago, the beginning of this semester seems like just a few weeks ago, not months. But gone, it has, and I am now officially a Senior in college. Or maybe just an official rising Senior. I'm not really sure how all of that works. Anyway, the point is that in a year's time I will not be a Samford student, I will be a Samford Alum. And that is very weird indeed.

Classes ended up well, though I will admit I'm a little disappointed that I ended up with an 88.17 in OB, just a mere .33 points away from being a B+. (yes, nursing school is weird-an A is a 92 and up, B+ 89-91, B 82-88, etc. etc.) Considering that quiz that I forgot to take and the frustratingly low group project grade we decided not to try and appeal for something a little higher, it is a bit frustrating that this high B will still only show up as B on my transcript and nothing more. The good news is that while the OB teachers have proved to be heartless in grades, Adult Health is ever friendly, kind, and caring, and dropped an extra quiz grade, giving me just enough bonus points to push me up to an A. A pleasant surprise I was not expecting at all. So I suppose I have that happiness to cling to. Not that grades really matter or anything in the long run. It just makes me feel nice.

I am now also officially 21, and have officially bought my first drink (without being carded! *gasp* I almost feel as though I should have called back the waiter and insist on being carded, so I could get the full experience. No matter, though, I'm sure the next time I buy a drink I will be carded, because I am still convinced I do not look old enough to be 21. I mean, that's old.) We went out to this fun pizza place called Mafiaoza's. It's Mafia themed! How cool!! The waiter suggested a Mai Tai, which was quite fruity and fun. Though Anna P.'s glass of Chardonnay was also quite enjoyable. At home, I also have a nice birthday present of Woodchuck's to enjoy, plus my father forced me to try some Whiskey, something our waiter also really wanted me to try- after experiencing it, I'm not surprised that he wanted to see my reaction- my dad couldn't stop laughing. Let's just say I'm not going to become a Whiskey drinker anytime soon. Or, you know, ever. I'll stick to my nice hard ciders and fruity cups of fun. Though I do think it's about time to call up Ms. Simmons for tha martini she promised...

I am also leaving for Italy in a mere 3 days. And haven't really started packing at all. But I've thought about it, so that counts, right?

I got some exciting things for my birthday, including a new, much smaller camera, a nice blow up bed for choir tours, a Degas picture I won't say anything more about, a couple of games I wanted, two nice kaleidoscopes- one from my grandparent's that is a pretty blue and fun, and another that has pill in the cell!! like, how cool is that?!, and piano music! Nice, happy, easy piano music. It's quite exciting. I have the big note version of pride and prejudice and have been working on Liz On Top Of The World and the first page is sounding almost like a real song already! granted, it's, you know, the easy version, but hey! it still sounds like pretty, real music! not like me just punching out random notes on the piano. This is very exciting. I also have a book of disney songs, soundtrack songs, and 150 of the most beautiful songs ever, all easy versions. I think next I'll work on Pachebel's Cannon, because it's, well, gorgeous. The good news is that if I don't find anything to do this summer once I return from Europe, at least I can sit and work on the piano all day long. And then maybe I'll be half decent! at easy stuff...

Well, I'm about to drag my sister to go see 17 again, and then we're meeting up with my mom to go shopping for birthday clothes- i need to remember to get a swim cap to use at the pool in the place i'm staying in italy. apparently you aren't allowed in without a swim cap. And then I need to look into washing my mom's old backpack so I can take it with me to Europe. Too bad we don't have $200 lying around to buy a new one.

Oh yeah, for the curious who want to know about the recent down points in my life, I recently couldn't find anyone to drive a truck to a storage unit for me. So I drove it myself and dented it. That was not a happy moment. But now it's over, so that's good, at least. And for the skeptics, it was not because I'm a bad driver! it was a bad place (yeah, yeah, excuses are tools of incompetence...)

I'm really excited about having my own bathroom next year. That degas painting is going to have a really nice home.
