Better late than never...

So, I broke my monthly update streak.  I have a two-fold excuse, the biggest being The Hunger Games. I finally started reading them while I was camping with my family, and had intended to update my blog when I got back, but instead I was spending every waking moment not working finishing the trilogy.  The second part is Bones... I started watching the series, and have whizzed through 6 seasons in about a month.

But enough with excuses, on to updates!

The night of my last update, I was staying up late waiting for the first clue for early entry into Pottermore (the new HP website with new info from Jo, herself, including a wand selection and house sorting ceremony with questions she created).  Since then (after a lot of waiting) I have gotten my welcome email and gotten sorted!  I am a HUFFLEPUFF! This is very exciting news, I think (though for some reason everyone's first question has been "Are you happy?" or something along those lines). But I am actually thrilled (though I'm still getting used to the idea of wearing yellow...). The Hufflepuff house embodies many qualities my parents have encouraged and I strive for, including hospitality, loyalty, trustworthiness, and a fierce protection of those you love.  The common room is reminiscent of a hobbit hole or perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Beavers cozy Dam.  My wand is Beech with unicorn hair, 10 3/4 inches, solid.  Beech wand holders are rich in understanding and experience, which I like the sound of...

But enough about Harry... he's not the only thing going on in my life...

Work has been going, nothing exactly new to update there, though we have just brought on the next new bunch of residents, so it's exactly a year since I officially started in the Neuro Unit.. I've found myself thinking about what I might want to do after this, since I assume I probably won't stay in the Neuro ICU forever, but I honestly have no idea where I might want to go next. Sometimes nursing is overwhelming with possibilities... and I realize I need to sometimes stop and let myself reflect, which I haven't necessarily been doing a great job of recently.

A week ago I got to finally going camping again with my family in the NC Shining Rock wilderness.  It was so nice to be back in the mountains again, and to spend time away from everything else, and just enjoy time together. The berries were almost nonexistant this year, which is crazy, but it was still a wonderful trip.

Next week I'm off to stand and witness my best friend's wedding. Though a joyful event, it is also mixed with a sadness that comes when friends live too many miles to be quickly or spontaneously traveled.  It doesn't quite feel real, and probably won't until it's actually happening.

Lastly, I'm still loving my new house.  My roommates have been wonderful companions, as has the new edition Neville.  He and my roommate's cat Abner have really started to get along in the past couple of weeks, and it's been fun to watch them play together.  Neville gets bigger every day (almost 4 lbs now! He was only about 1.5 lbs when I got him), and also smarter- he can jump up onto our high bar stools from the ground! I'm sure he's going to start getting himself into trouble, but he keeps me entertained.

This blog is not nearly as good as the updates I started drafting in my head were, but what can you do... Now I'm off to sit around and wonder what I'm supposed to do now that I've finished Bones and The Hunger Games... I feel a little lost.

Reading the Hunger Games is definitely an acceptable excuse. It's such a good trilogy. And congrats on getting into Hufflepuff!
